Professional Training
Dustin Retrievers offers professional gun dog training, obedience training, and retriever training in Sutter, California and Twin Bridges, Montana. Family-owned and operated since 1989, we have been training retrievers full time for over 35 years, specializing in Labrador Retrievers and Chesapeake Bay Retrievers — though we welcome all breeds. We will do our best to help your dog reach their full potential. Evaluations are always FREE at both locations, and after your dog goes home from training, there is never a charge for one-on-one follow-up visits.
Puppy Introduction
$975 / month — Includes boarding, food & birds
Can start between 4 to 6 months of age and lasts 2 to 4 weeks. This is the perfect age to introduce your puppy to water, birds, different field situations, ropes and control with very limited pressure, kennels, crates and other dogs.
Puppy Introduction sets the foundation your pup will need to be a good citizen and a successful student in the Gundog and Advanced programs. We concentrate on the "Big Three": desire to please, desire to retrieve, and getting your pup ready to take pressure in formal training.
Highly recommended for all young dogs. Available at both Sutter, California and Twin Bridges, Montana locations.
All Breed Obedience Training
$975 / month — Includes food & boarding
Our obedience course for most breeds takes about 6–8 weeks. Your dog can start as early as six months of age or older.
Your dog will learn to sit, heel (walk at side without pulling), here (come when called), and kennel (go into kennel, crate, vehicle, or boat). Also covers confidence, dealing with distractions, manners, and not jumping on people.
There is truly peace of mind when your dog is obedient. After going home, there is never a charge for one-on-one follow-up visits. Available at both Sutter, California and Twin Bridges, Montana locations.
Obedience with Retrieving
$975 / month — Includes boarding, food & birds
This program lasts about 3 months and is a customer favorite. It covers everything the all breed obedience course covers but also sets a foundation for proper retrieving. Your dog will get plenty of water, birds, guns, and be put in different field situations to help him/her succeed! Perfect for the casual hunter or retriever pet owner.
Also a great option for the upland bird hunter. It is essentially the gun dog course without force training and works great for pointers too.

Gun Dog Training
$975 / month — Includes boarding, food & birds
Can start as early as 6–8 months and takes approximately 4 months. During this phase, commands are taught, reinforced, and put together to make an obedient family companion and gun dog! During the 4 months, your dog will get plenty of water, birds, guns, and be put in different field situations to help him/her succeed in the duck blind!
Every dog trains differently and at different paces. We are very sensitive to your dog's personality. We seldom use an electronic collar until the dog thoroughly understands the commands.
After going home, there is never a charge for one-on-one follow-up visits. Available at both Sutter, California and Twin Bridges, Montana locations.
Advanced Training & Tune-Ups
$975 / month — Includes boarding, food & birds
If you need hand signals and whistle response — for hunting or Hunt Test competitions — Dustin Retrievers will tailor a program for you and your dog.
Advanced Training can start a few months after the Gun Dog course (or after gun dog training plus a hunting season). Foundation hand signal and whistle response is taught in about 3 months — enabling you to guide your dog to a bird it didn't see fall using whistles and hand signals.
A must for serious duck hunters and Hunt Test competitors. Dustin Retrievers has the experience to take you to the next level. Available at both Sutter, California and Twin Bridges, Montana locations.

FAQs
How long does gun dog training take?
Gun dog training typically takes 3 to 4 months depending on the program. Our upland bird dog program runs about 3 months, while our full waterfowl program takes approximately 4 months. Every dog is different though — we work at your dog's pace, not the clock.
How much does dog training cost?
Training is $975 per month, which includes boarding, food, and birds. We prorate at $32.50 per day, so if your dog is ready early or you need a little extra time, you only pay for what you use. No surprises.
Do you train all breeds?
Absolutely — we welcome all breeds and all sizes. While we specialize in Labrador Retrievers and Chesapeake Bay Retrievers, we have successfully trained everything from Spaniels to Pointers to mixed breeds. If it has four legs and a nose, we can work with it.
